  1. Learn to Paint Using Acrylics with Julie Read

    Learn to paint using acrylics in this 6-week course. Students will explore a range of acrylic painting techniques to create soft images inspired by nature, and also bold, bright, wild creations that acrylics are known for. Each assignment will guide students step-by-step through planning for a painting, preparing surfaces for paint, and finishing a completed painting.

  2. Staked Furniture

    In this five-day class, students will build a staked saw bench and a staked chair using a hand tool oriented tool set. The chair is a new design, which can be made with three, four or five legs based on the student’s preference A stool with five legs is shown in the photograph and furnishes the most practice and learning opportunities. This class will revolve around the classic chair making skills, taught in a way comfortable for woodworkers of all abilities and backgrounds.

    In this five-day class, students will build a staked saw bench and a staked chair using a handtool oriented tool set. The chair is a new design, which can be made with three, four or five legs based on the student’s preference (five legs is shown in the photograph and furnishes the most practice and learning opportunities!). This class will revolve around the classic chairmaking skills, taught in a way comfortable for woodworkers of all abilities and backgrounds. The process will start with a pile of wood, from which the students will make the slab seat, legs, spindles and crest of the chair. Along the way, we’ll cover sharpening, rounding and octagonalizing legs and rungs, drilling and reaming compound angles, conical tenon joinery, finishing and a lot more. Students will leave with an ability to create any number of simple chair designs using the skills acquired in the class, and a unique piece of furniture.

  4. Fundamentals of Collage and Mixed Media with Anne Schneider

    Mixed Media and Collage class is for beginners and for collage artists who want to broaden their knowledge base and refresh a variety of skills. The first day of the class is about making papers to use the second day in creating two original, abstract, collage-mixed media creations. Papers will be created using acrylic paints, stencils, mark making tools, ghost prints, marbled paper and specialty papers. We will discuss prepping substrates, composition styles, colors, and demonstrate the process of tearing, layering and adhering papers. Please bring a lunch with you or plan to purchase a meal from one of the excellent options on the Fort Worden campus.
