Technical climbing on Beacon Rock's south face is temporarily closed for the protection of Peregrine Falcon nesting. It is anticipated to re-open July 15. The east face is permanently closed for the protection of natural resources. The northwest and west faces are currently open, and the Beacon Rock hiking trail is open year-round.

Belfair State Park will be undergoing a campsite re-numbering project beginning September 16, 2024. Reservations will be closed for any camping from September 16th forward until the project is completed. The park will remain open during this project for drop in camping only, excluding the tree loop which closes for the season September 15th each year. Reservations will re-open October 1, 2024.

As of Feb. 26, 2024, the cabins and restrooms in the lower area at Cama Beach State Park will be closed until further notice. Day-use in that area will remain open, but restrooms will only be available in other parts of the park. Significant parts of the septic system recently failed in the area, and the repairs will require extensive disturbance of the area, which has known environmental and cultural complexities.

Reservations will be refunded in full, and we’re very sorry for the disruption this may cause. We hope you’ll consider visiting one of the other parks in the area. As we continue to evaluate the site, it is possible additional mitigations or closures of parts of the park will take place. Please keep checking these alerts for the latest information.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will conduct prescribed burns at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge beginning in late March through May. Alternative parking is available in the Cranberry Lake parking lot, which as walking access to West Beach, approximately one mile away. The North Beach day-use area and parking lot are also open. Cranberry Lake Road is closed at the east side of Cranberry Lake, just past the Lake Store entrance. There is no access to the Cranberry Lake boat launch.

The Cole Creek Bridge on the 41 Rd out of the  Reload Sno-Park has collapsed.  There is an official closure order on this bridge from the USFS for ALL motorized use.  Now that the bridge has completely collapsed it is even more unsafe.  

Due to low snow conditions grooming is being reduced to once per week from Whittier Tunnel east to the reload. Grooming will be on Thursdays.

There is an upcoming forest health treatment project planned for approximately 300 acres in the Pine Bluff and 7 Mile areas of Riverside State Park. The treatment plan will involve forest thinning to limit competition between existing old growth trees removing sapling and pole sized trees that may act as ladder fuels in the event of a fire. This will help return the forest to conditions within the historic range or variability, reduce wildfire risk, minimize damage to existing trails, and will protect and promote old growth trees and sensitive species and habitats within the park. There will be intermittent trail closures within the project area during this time. Please do not disturb any signs or flagging.

Steptoe Butte will be closed for a road improvement project beginning spring 2025. Repaving this road will improve the visitor experience, access and safety. The vault toilet located on the butte summit will also be removed during this work. There is a restroom located in the lower picnic area on your way to the summit. Roadside shoulder parking on Ley Road will be limited due to housing construction that has affected off-site parking.  Shoulder areas along Ley Road that are typically available for parking when the main parking lot is full will be limited for available space. If you are planning to hike at Wallace Falls on the weekend it is advised to arrive early when parking spaces are available. If the parking lot is full, please consider other area hikes at this time.

Construction will begin on Willapa Hills Trail crossing Kelso St. in Pe Ell:

-Wednesday, April 17th there will intermittent closures due to heavy construction equipment. We advise that there should be no horse traffic on the trail that day.

-Monday, April 22nd-Wednesday, April 24th trail work and heavy equipment will be running in the immediate area.

Trestles 32 and 32.5 are completed and open. However, trail surface improvements in this area are scheduled to occur late 2024.

The trail is closed at MP 38.5 west of Lebam due to a washout. Planning, permitting, and design of a bridge to span the washout is currently in progress.

The trail is closed between MP 48-49 at Trestle 48, east of Heckard Rd. The trestle and adjacent trail are unsafe for use due to erosion.
