  2. Make a Crankie!

    Make your own special Cama “crankie” all materials provided. A “crankie” is an old storytelling art form, popular in the 19th century. Start with a long-illustrated scroll that is wound onto two spools. Spools are loaded into a box with a viewing screen. Then the scroll is hand-cranked while the story is told, or a tune is played or a song is sung. They are pure magic!

  4. Podorythmie: Fiddle, accordion, songs and dancing!

    Podorythmie, Quebecois for "foot rhythms", is a five-member group hailing from the U.S., France and Canada. Known for high energy and good time performances of French- Canadian music and dance. Fiddle, accordion, songs and lots of hard shoe step dancing interspersed with “crankie” (moving panorama) shows makes their performances unique.

    This two-week course will cover the design and construction of a small, upholstered ottoman, footstool, or bench. The first week, you'll explore the construction techniques of a small upholstered low seat. The second week is a continuation but also an exploration into sculptural form, either through a new object or continuing and adding parts to the seat from the first week.

Park staff will provide educational lessons on a variety of topics, including the natural environment and local wildlife, nocturnal animals, sensory exploration, geology and hiker preparedness.     To celebrate National Get Outdoors Day, today is a State Parks "free day" when a Discover Pass is not required to visit a state park or lands managed by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. Please note, free days apply only to day use (not overnight stays or rented facilities). A Discover Pass is still required to access lands managed by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources on this day.
