Raku with Jim Romberg

Saturday, September 28, 2019

The Raku ceramic process and aesthetic dating from 15th century Japan provides unique opportunities for personal expression in clay. This workshop will present glazing and firing techniques special to Raku. Based on a philosophy of spontaneity and innovation Raku pieces are fired one at a time, removed red hot from the kiln and given a special post firing reduction treatment to bring out special effects of glaze and surface. In addition, methods to construct an inexpensive backyard Raku kiln will be presented with sources for materials and equipment. The workshop is open for beginners and advanced participants to glaze and fire their own or provided bisqueware with the Raku technique.
