  1. Heron viewing by kayak

    March 15, 2020, 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM @ Lake Sammamish State Park

Lake Sammamish provides a bountiful habitat for roughly 60 to 100 nests. March is the best month to see adult herons building out existing nests for new offspring. This unique tour is offered only once a year and will allow viewers to observe the nesting herons from a variety of perspectives before the spring leaves blossom and hide the nests.

Kayak tours will be led by Issaquah Paddle Sports/Kayak Academy kayak guides and presented by a State Parks interpretive ranger on the water. A short walk for land-based viewing is part of the tour. Spotting scopes will be provided for observing the heron nests. The tour will take approximately two hours. Participants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars for wildlife viewing from the water.

Kayaks seat two people. The tours are $40/person and include kayaks and dry suits. Children 10 and under can ride in the third kayak seat for an additional $10. If you are coming solo, let us know so we can pair you with a partner.
