    This course drills deep into the basics, beginning with a firm foundation in understanding wood as a material and incorporates introductory training in a wide range of techniques. The curriculum focuses on imparting skills through a series of projects designed to build on one another in techniques and complexity. After twelve weeks, you'll leave with an in-depth experience of hand tools; having practiced applications of joinery methods, considered choices for wood selection and worked with non-toxic materials. And you’ll understand practical planning for designing and executing woodworking projects.

Lake Easton State Park

  1. Guided snowshoe hike

    February 8, 2020, 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM @ Lake Easton State Park

    Hikes will be about 3 miles on moderate terrain and last approximately 2.5 hours. All ages and ability levels are welcome. Guides will share tidbits on natural history, snowshoeing basics and safety information during the hikes. Bring snowshoes, poles, layered clothing, boots and water.

    For more information about the snowshoe hikes, call (509) 925-1943. Participants should call after 9 a.m. on the day of the hike for status updates. Cancellations may occur due to road closures or other winter access issues.

    Join us on every Saturday in January & February at 1 PM as park staff guide you on a snowshoe hike through gorgeous scenery along the Wenatchee River, the shore of Lake Wenatchee and surrounding forest. Participants can enjoy a well-packed route through parts of our park that are not always accessible in summer. Expect some historical talking points about the park and views of Nason Ridge, Dirty Face, South Beach and if we're luck, some wildlife!

Mount Spokane State Park

  1. Family-friendly snowperson building contest

    February 8, 2020, 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM @ Mount Spokane State Park

    Join park staff for the first-ever snowperson building contest at Mount Spokane State Park. Meet staff at the Lower Kit Carson Road Parking lot. Staff will lead the group down Lower Kit Carson Loop Road, approximately .25 miles (.5-mile roundtrip) to the junction of trails 100 and 110. Contest will start at 10 a.m. Participants will have one hour to build their masterpiece and are welcome to bring props from home.

    Snow creations will be photographed and voted on by the public. Children 12 and under will be entered into a separate category. Prizes will include an annual Discover Pass, State Park icon print of Mount Spokane and the State Parks Guide. Winners will be contacted by State Parks.

    Dogs are welcome on a leash (owners must clean up after their pets). Bring water, snacks, warm clothes, and props for your snowperson.

    Parking requirement: Sno-Park permit required

  1. Deep Forest Experience interpretive program and guided hikes

    February 8, 2020, 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM @ Rockport State Park

    Join one of our winter guided hikes offered Saturdays through February as part of the Deep Forest Experience program. You'll be able to learn about the lichen and moss-covered ancient cedars, firs, hemlocks and maples, along with the history, ecology, and geology of the park. And you'll be able to explore an old-growth forest that provides a glimpse of what the Skagit River Valley looked for thousands of years before European settlers began to reshape it through logging, farming, road building, and other development.

    After completing the hike, you are invited into the Discovery Center to warm up with hot beverages, fresh-made popcorn and cookies to enjoy by the wood stove. There are informational videos to watch, arts and crafts projects, and games. It’s a fun and educational winter family activity, rain, snow or shine!
