  1. Alla Prima Painting with Chris Witkowski, Last Saturday of the Month

    January 26, 2019, 9:00 AM - May 25, 2019, 4:00 PM

This initiates a series of ongoing, once a month, full day workshops exploring Alla Prima painting. Commit to your painting. Set aside one day a month and feel good about making it happen. Alla prima is Italian for “at the first” or “at once” and represents the technique of direct painting. Specifically, it has come to mean finishing a painting in one shot. The success or failure of the results rides on the inspiration of the moment and the skill of the artist. It calls for a totality of vision, seeing the “whole picture” in a simplified way. It requires discipline and an economy of technique so as to say more with less. It’s challenging but so satisfying when you pull it off. You will be working from still life materials, learning and practicing all the ways one can achieve a fresh, vibrant painting. Keeping your palette and painting tools clean is of paramount importance in this style of painting. You learn to work fast and cover your painting surface quickly.

  2. Introduction to Cabinet Making: Kitchenette

    April 29, 2019, 9:00 AM - May 10, 2019, 5:00 PM

Learn to build basic cabinets and complete a custom installation without the need for big stationary equipment. Using modern tools and a few tricks of the trade, you'll learn how to create cabinetry in a small home shop that is as good as high-priced custom, and much better than what's sold in the big box stores. This two-week course offers an in-depth look at cabinet making basics, including design theory, planning and layout, scribing and installation techniques, and the opportunity to work with materials and tools. After being introduced to the basics, students will each construct a small sample cabinet with carcass, face frame and a door.

  3. Water World (Grades 5-6)

    May 5, 2019 - May 10, 2019

Water World, a dynamic collaboration between Centrum and the Port Townsend Marine Science Center, is filled with activities and projects that expand and enhance elementary students’ experience of the marine world through the lenses of both science and art.

In collaboration with artists, scientists, and peers from across the state, students integrate scientific investigations with creative writing, dance, and visual art. The result is a multi-faceted, full immersion learning experience. Students work in small groups that rotate through activities in the field as well as in laboratories, performance studios, and natural history exhibits. Each day offers a mix of both scientific and artistic workshops. The group size is small to allow for maximum personal attention and minimum impact on fragile environments.

Hosted by Wednesday Night Mountain Bike Races. "Our main goal is fun. Part of the fun is keeping things simple. We don’t have a bunch of age groups, multiple start times (although reserve the right to break groups into separate start times for safety reasons) etc. We have a different course each Wednesday that will challenge you in different ways. You will have the option of going 1 lap or 2 laps."
