Larrabee State Park

  1. Archaeology of the Early to Middle Holocene of the Puget Sound

    August 24, 2019, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM @ Larrabee State Park

Come enjoy an evening in Larrabee State Park learning about archaeology of the Puget Sound!
The archaeology of 5,000-9,000 years ago within Puget Sound is not well known, besides the presence of leaf-shaped projectile points that are often characterized as belonging to the "Olcott Phase." Through recent research of stone tools found in Puget Sound, there has been new insight into this archaeological "phase" that we call Olcott.
This talk will describe what the Olcott Phase is and the new information that is being learned about the archaeological history of Puget Sound. There are excellent palm frond fossils in coves along Chuckanut Drive, making Larrabee State Park an excellent place to learn about this interesting topic!
Meet at the amphitheater in the south day-use area of the park. There is limited seating available at picnic tables, so bring a blanket or chair to sit on!
