High levels of Nitrate MCL in water

Higher than standard levels of Nitrate MCL have been identified in the water at Potholes. This does not pose an immediate threat to visitors. Adults (except pregnant women) and children older than 12 months may drink the tap water. Do not allow children less than 12 months old to consume this water.

Customers staying at Potholes who would like park staff to provide water may contact staff during posted hours and receive up to 1.5 gallons per day. Due to some bottled water shortages, visitors are encourage to bring their own water. State Parks will provide bottled water as resources are available.

State Parks is actively locating a new well and expect the project to be completed by the end of the year.

Additional information about nitrates are posted at the park and available upon request when visitors arrive at the park.
