  1. Beginning Figure Drawing with Kelly Drake

    January 9, 2019, 10:30 AM - February 27, 2019, 1:00 PM

In Beginning Figure Drawing, you will learn to draw the human figure in a casual, non-judgmental environment. First, by doing quick “gesture” drawings, you will learn to capture the essence of a pose quickly and accurately. Then, during longer poses, learn how to portray the correct human proportions through observation, drawing accuracy, measuring and some anatomy basics. Move on to creating shading and light, comparing values and adding drama.

  2. Alla Prima Painting with Chris Witkowski, Last Saturday of the Month

    January 26, 2019, 9:00 AM - May 25, 2019, 4:00 PM

This initiates a series of ongoing, once a month, full day workshops exploring Alla Prima painting. Commit to your painting. Set aside one day a month and feel good about making it happen. Alla prima is Italian for “at the first” or “at once” and represents the technique of direct painting. Specifically, it has come to mean finishing a painting in one shot. The success or failure of the results rides on the inspiration of the moment and the skill of the artist. It calls for a totality of vision, seeing the “whole picture” in a simplified way. It requires discipline and an economy of technique so as to say more with less. It’s challenging but so satisfying when you pull it off. You will be working from still life materials, learning and practicing all the ways one can achieve a fresh, vibrant painting. Keeping your palette and painting tools clean is of paramount importance in this style of painting. You learn to work fast and cover your painting surface quickly.
