  1. Foundations of Woodworking

    This course will drill deep into the basics, beginning with a firm foundation in understanding wood as a material and incorporates introductory training in a wide range of techniques. You'll leave with a in depth experience of hand tools, practice applications of joinery methods, consider choices for wood selection and working with non-toxic materials, and understand practical planning for designing and executing woodworking projects. The curriculum focuses on imparting skills through a series of projects designed to build on one another in techniques and complexity.

  2. Furniture Making: Finding your Voice

    This 12 week course is focused on developing the skills that will allow you to start to find your voice as a furniture designer / maker. Design will be the consistent thread through the numerous projects of this class. We will take a hybrid approach to furniture making by blending traditional hand tool techniques with pragmatic use of woodworking machines.

  5. Magic of Colored Inks with Melissa Klein

    Colored inks offer a huge range of versatility for creating layers with your painting. You will learn how to create glow and shadow effects to add more depth and light to your painting. Mix colors beyond the basics to make both more naturalistic and vivid effects. Ink is a perfect medium between drawing and painting, it's a great way to explore and make the transition with confidence from drafting/drawing skills to painting. Inks can be used on their own or mix well with other water-based media to expand your range with watercolors. Beginners are welcome.

Lake Sammamish State Park

  1. Lake Sammamish State Park Nature Kayak Tours

    Kayak Academy is now taking registrations for its annual spring nature tour along the shores of Lake Sammamish. A professional kayak guide leads the 2.5 hour tour along the shores of Lake Sammamish and up a portion of Issaquah Creek. During the tour, a state park ranger will present an on the water program about the Great Blue Heron. In addition to the herons, tours frequently see a variety of waterfowl and raptors such as Bald Eagles and Red-Tailed Hawks. Spotting scopes will be available for land based bird viewing, but participants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars to view birds from the water.

    Registration Only: $20 per person (bring your own kayak)
    Registration + Sit-On-Top Kayak Rental: One-person kayak $30; Two-person kayak $60; Three-person kayak $69.
    Free dry suits and life jackets will be provided to all participants.

  2. Holi Celebration at Lake Sammamish State Park

    This ticketed event, which takes place at the park’s kitchen shelter, will include family-friendly play with colored powders, a disc jockey with Bollywood music, vegetarian food and traditional Indian music and dance.

    Holi is known as the Festival of Colors or the Festival of Love. Each year, in India, Holi is celebrated with great enthusiasm. This carnival of colors is a special time, when participants of all ages, genders, classes and castes play, chase and spray each other with nontoxic colored dry powders and water. The Hindu celebration has become popular with non-Hindus in many parts of South Asia, and it has been enthusiastically adopted in the United States.

    This year’s event will benefit Ravishing Women, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting female entrepreneurs and artists by helping them grow their businesses. The festival aims to promote culture and bring the community together to welcome spring.
